Exploring differences

I've always loved landscape painting and, after much exploration, have decided to concentrate on exploring the juxtaposition between nature and abandoned man-made structures. During my travels, I was always fascinated by the flotsam and jetsam of early settlers as they struggled to tame the land, often giving it away when living became too tough. Left behind - old iron beds, broken plates, strands of wire, nails by the thousands, old crumbling bricks, the rims of wagon wheels, and many other discarded things.

My paintings depict these discarded items as dark slashes and shapes piercing backgrounds of luscious colours. The juxtaposition between the two is quite dramatic and touching as one understands the story behind each work.
